Mitchell “Mitch” Shapiro is a founding Principal of SGR. Mitch’s practice focuses on domestic and foreign patent prosecution, reissue and reexamination, strategic patent counseling, patent opinions, and due diligence.

As a third-generation patent attorney with over 30 years of experience, Mitch has successfully prosecuted thousands of patent applications. He possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of patent prosecution and an ability to quickly understand a vast range technologies. Serving clients worldwide, Mitch’s prosecution experience spans numerous fields, including semiconductor devices and manufacturing, automotive components and systems, optical components and systems and image processing, medical and surgical devices, analytical instruments, manufacturing systems, product packaging and shipping containers, heavy construction equipment, railway technologies, nanotechnology, industrial chemistry and foodstuffs, as well as many others. His prosecution efforts have significantly enhanced the commercial positions of his clients and have resulted in millions of dollars in licensing royalties.

While attending law school, Mitch worked full time as an electrical engineer for Baltimore Gas and Electric Co.

Animal Welfare Supporters

Since the passing of their beloved Jack Russell terrier, Sadie, Mitch and his wife, Bonnie, have spent their weekends volunteering at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. They have also rehabilitated and fostered several dogs from the shelter.
